Vitumbiko Nkhwazi-Chikapa

Vitumbiko Nkhwazi-Chikapa, is an accomplished development expert born on 28th June, 1979, in Mzuzu, Malawi. She graduated from Women’s University in Africa, Harare, Zimbabwe with a Master’s Degree in Development Studies. She also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and in Diploma in Human Resource Management.

She is very passionate about the promotion of human right as the only way of addressing the injustices that affect our societies. Her enthusiasm in human rights issues is the reason she changed her career from aviation industry, where for 19 years she amassed tremendous air travel and ticketing experience while working for Galaxy Travels, Air Malawi and Kenya Airways.

Her professional interests focus on women and girls rights. She wants to see more women empowered to break the poverty cycle. As a way of empowering women and girls, she has founded an NGO that is fully registered with the Malawi Government and CONGOMA called Catherine Intandosi Foundation (CIF) which was named after her mother.

In addition, she is the founder of Little Warriors, a support group for mothers who have given birth to premature babies. This was established after she had given birth to a premature baby in 2017 and was not able to get enough information locally on the journey but depended on international groups on social media. She saw the gap that existed and felt it wise to start a support group for mainly psychological support which has now turned into something bigger.

Instead of just psychological support, the group also makes monthly cash contributions which are then used to purchase assorted items including baby blankets, clothes and cash for the mothers with premature babies in hospitals. The contributions are also used to purchase items for the hospitals too like the oxygen tubes, infant formula and disposable nappies that are very important for the babies. So far they have visited all the central hospitals in Malawi and are planning to include district hospitals.

She is married with two boys and a girl. She likes traveling, reading, baking, watching documentaries and walking. Her best memories include her first visit to the Schengen Area.
