Martha Kwataine is the Special Advisor to the President on NGOs and Civil Society. She is a seasoned leader, with an exemplary eye ethical conduct and efficient communication, following strategic policies. She values time management, delivery of set goals and targets. She has experience in board Support and Development, having served as both an executive director and a board member of organizations, including parastatals, including, being a CEO and being key to the NICE Trust management transition from an EU-funded project to a public trust and self-assessment of MACRA.
For the majority of her career, she has worked in the non-profit sector, where she has led the development of grant proposals leading to the securing of funding from UNICEF, UNFPA, the CDC, the EU, and the Global Fund.

Malawian-born Musowi Sikwese is an established Accountant and financial expert who projects a high level of technical competence, self-confidence, authority, and enthusiasm in doing what she knows how to do best. With over twenty years of exceptional experience managing several international development projects, Musowi has proven to be a visionary leader, adept with the knowledge of organizational development through visioning, strategic planning, evaluation, monitoring, and trusted advisory support.
She recently ended her five-year contract as the Senior Accountant with United Purpose under the EU Funded project co-financed by the Department of Foreign Affairs through Action on Poverty, Australia. In this capacity, she was responsible for preparing financial management information to be reviewed by the project manager. She joined the team at United Purpose as a Project Accountant in 2011. The process of managing various projects on accounting and financial operations with oversight for financial reporting, account records and accounting controls for international bodies is tough. Still, Musowi mastered it all and was appointed the Senior Accountant in 2016.
In her career years, she has been instrumental in a wide range of financial and administrative practices in various non-profit, small businesses and corporations both locally and internationally. Musowi started out her career as a Sales & Administration Manager with International Power Control Systems in 1997. She has since served in the financing departments of United Populations Funds (UNFPA) and Malawi Export Promotion. During her time in these organizations, she redesigned a professional account system; judiciously managed financial budgets; implemented, led, supported, and developed various financial and accounting activities that led to a positive shift in outcomes.
Tapping into her educational background, Musowi holds an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration and an Advanced Diploma in Accounting & Business (ACCA). She attended Malawi College of Accountancy, where she earned her Level One Certificate of Chartered Accountant (ACCA) – a certificate equivalent to a UK Bachelors Accounting degree. In 2019, she received her Final Level-chartered Accountant, equivalent to UK Masters in Accounting, from David Hastings College. Seeking to widen her horizon of learning, Musowi is currently a graduate student with Amity Online University, where she’s working towards completing her Master’s in Business Administration come December 2022.
She is an active member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA). She’s also a Board Member for the CUMO micro-financing institution serving two committees, including Finance & Audit and Credit Social Impact. As someone who enjoys giving back to her community, Musowi is a member of the Finance committee at Presbyterian church, Limbe-Blantyre, Malawi.
Joyce Tulinawe Malongo, is an economist by profession with specialization in the transport sector. She has over 14 years’ experience in transport policy advice and formulation, corridor management, regional integration, transport and trade facilitation, supporting transport sector constructions and operations, and institutional and stakeholder management. Her experience is in the public sector, private sector, and consulting.
One of the major projects she has been involved is the negotiation, construction, and operations of the Nacala Railway Corridor by Vale Logistics Limited where she currently works as an External Affairs Specialist. She has also worked as a transport economist in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works of the Republic Malawi where amongst other responsibilities she was providing policy advice aimed at improving infrastructure and operations of all modes of transport in Malawi and the region. He long term career goal is to contribute to the efficient improvement of the transport sector in Africa.
She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Development Economics from the University of East Anglia and a Bachelor of Social Science Degree majoring in Economics from the University of Malawi.
Mrs. Masuzgo Hara (57) is a Chartered Accountant with 30 years’ work experience gained through employment in two Listed companies in Malawi; NICO Holdings plc and Press Corporation plc. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM).
She holds an MBA from Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI). She graduated from University of Malawi, Polytechnic with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accountancy) with Distinction. She holds an Africa Board Fellowship (ABF) certificate from Centre for Financial Inclusion (ACCION), a US based institution that offers strategic leadership training for Board members and CEOs of Microfinance Institutions in Africa.
She serves as an independent Board member on the Board of VisionFund Malawi where she chairs Audit committee and is also a member of the Governance and Nominations Committee. She recently retired as Finance Manager from NICO Holdings Plc. Previously, she worked as Chief Accountant at Press Corporation Head Office and left the Press Group as Financial Controller in one of its subsidiaries. Currently she runs an agribusiness trading company, a family partnership where she is responsible for all finance matters.
She has vast experience and expertise in accounting, finance, risk management, general management and board leadership. Her key skills and competences include, in depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), good team builder and player, excellent analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking, among others.
Deborah T. Kafanikhale is of Malawian origin and has 7 years’ experience working with NGO’s in International Development. Her experience spans from working on various Agricultural value chains in the areas of Market Linkages by connecting Farm Based Organizations, Aggregators to produce markets as well as managing relationships and coordinating efforts with stakeholders mainly NGOs, the government through Ministry of Agriculture among others.
Through her program management and coordination role, Deborah has experience in managing sub-awards/grants given to sub recipient organizations and plays a key role in managing program stakeholders, donor engagements, as well as short term consultants and ensuring effective service delivery. As a key player in the Agriculture/Development Sector, she contributes to policy formulation like the newly updated Cooperative Development policy.
Deborah is currently studying towards a Project Management Professional Certification under the Project Management Institute, and she holds a Master’s degree in Economics as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management.
Dorothy Chisusu is an agricultural economist holding a Master’s Degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the Lilongwe University and Natural Resources (LUANAR) and University of Pretoria. She also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics from University of Malawi.
Dorothy is working with WorldFish implementing projects and conducting research in fisheries and aquaculture arena. Prior to joining WorldFish, she worked with Alliance for African Partnership (AAP) a Michigan State University initiative and Cooperazione Internationale (COOPI). These opportunities provided her with diverse experience in partnership building, agribusiness and marketing, project management, research with focus on agriculture, poverty, nutrition and gender. In addition, she has worked as a freelance research assistant on various consultancies gaining vast experience in development of data collection tools, field data collection, data management and analysis and report writing.
She has aspirations of becoming part of home-grown solutions to Malawi and Africa development challenges through impactful research. Simultaneously, building partnerships among institutions which are mandated to conduct research and implement research driven policies with the aim of achieving Agenda 2063.
Martha Chisamba
Martha Chisamba is a Management Accountant at Southern Region Water Board. Previously, she worked as a finance and administration officer at International Organization for Migration-The UN Migration Agency. She has also worked as an Administration and Finance officer at 14Trees Malawi Limited.
Martha Chisamba is a highly motivated finance professional with over 7 years’ experience in finance, accounting and administration. She is able to operate comfortably in a high paced team and has skills in financial and corporate reporting, taxation, financial and management accounting, and strategic management. Martha has a positive attitude and strong work and accounting ethics.

Betty has over 28years of experience working as a professional accountant with over 17 years of experience in both executive and non- Executive leadership positions. Betty has worked as a consultant Chief Operations Officer (COO) at Malawi Liverpool Welcome Trust (MLW), as General Manager for FDH Money Bureau; as Director of Finance for Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Ltd (ESCOM), and as Head of Finance for the Malawi Environmental Endowment Trust (MEET).

Ms. Kondi Banda is a seasoned professional who has worked predominantly in the Research Industry. Consumer Insights is her area of expertise. She graduated from the University of North West (Mafikeng campus) with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours where she specialised in Management, Economics and Statistics. Thereafter, she went on to the AAA School of Advertising where she obtained a Diploma in Advertising and Market Research, obtained a merit for market research specialisation – predominantly this area has remained her passion.
She has worked in the following industries: Market Research; Advertising & Communication (Brand Building); Media Owner (Radio); Energy & Fuels; Automotive and FMCG (Beer & Spirits); in a career that has spanned over a period of over fifteen-years. She has always been based in South Africa and started off her career there; but in later years worked in over 17 countries on the African Continent.
Currently she is in Lilongwe doing some consultancy work in education and energy sector.
Ms Talumba Ireen Chilipaine is a Trade and Development Specialist with 14 years of relevant work experience, both at national and international level. She holds a master’s degree in Economics with a bias in Agriculture Economics and a Bachelors’ Degree in Social Sciences with a major in Economics, both from the University of Malawi. Her practical work experiences are mainly in food markets & food systems, value chain development, market access, trade policy, trade facilitation, private sector development, and regional economic integration. Through her work, she has continuously created linkages with key stakeholders including regulatory authorities, private sector, food business operators, exporting firms, national competent authorities, government institutions as well as development partners.
Significant part of her experience has been at the COMESA Secretariat where, she has worked as a Programme Manager on a market access initiative jointly funded by the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF). The initiative is piloting a systematic evidence-based approach in Prioritizing Sanitary and Phyto Sanitary (SPS) Investments for Market Access (P-IMA) in five COMESA countries namely, Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Ethiopia. In line with WTO agreement on SPS, P-IMA is aiming at boosting agriculture exports in targeted Value Chains, through identifying and prioritizing SPS challenges associated with major export trade flows. Through P-IMA, stakeholders especially private sector have been assisted in understanding the SPS regulations that are applied to international trade, including the new EU regulation that came into effect in 2019. Emphasis was equally made on the key requirements on regional standards, certification including private standards and the overall quality management system for the high-end/lucrative markets.
Through her COMESA roles, she has acquired high level diplomacy experience in dealing with COMESA member States especially on trade policy and capacity building which is her greatest passion. Other regional programmes that have involved intra-regional trade and in which she has played significant roles are emerging markets under the African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA), in relation to the new US Food Safety regulatory requirements, more particular, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that came into force in October 2017. Whilst at COMESA, she has also worked as a Programme Officer, under the COMESA USAID funded Programme focusing on agriculture trade. Specifically, she was responsible for Gender Integration into COMESA Regional Agriculture Investment Programmes. As part of her independent work, she was the main consultant for the UN Women publication on “Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs under the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA)” (2018). The publication identified opportunities for women entrepreneurs with regard to the AfCFTA, focusing on three areas of interest: Women in Informal Cross-border Trade, Gender and Value Chain Development, and affirmative action/preferential public procurement.

She was also the lead consultant on the development of AGRA’s Gender Implementation Plan for its Regional Food Trade and Resilience (RFTR) Programme (2020). AGRA’s RFTR Programme focusses on promoting regional food trade and food markets through policy designs and predictability as well as through a well-developed food market systems. AGRA’s Gender Implementation Plan outlines key indicators for tracking progress on food trade investments that maximize benefits to women-led SMEs.
Susan Chatha is a Professional Accountant at Old Mutual working on projects as an Internal Control Consultant. She has developed skills in project management, operations and management of control environment for almost two and half years. Further to the skills that she has obtained, she also has twenty years working experience with NBS Bank Limited. She developed a number of key skills that are invaluable in other functions of the organization. In addition to her accounting profession, she has been involved in business, operations, treasury, credit and project management.
As a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM), the council appointed Susan Chatha as a member of International and Public Relation Committee (IPR) in which she served for ten consecutive years. The roles of IPR are to enhance the image of the Institution and to foster relationship between the Institution and other professional bodies both local and internationally. Her profession has inevitably led to public speaking for instance at one of ICAM function were she was the Master of Ceremony coordinating and directing the whole function.
Susan Chatha is a highly motivated individual who enjoys new challenges. She has inevitably been exposed to some leadership skills at Old Mutual Limited, NBS Bank and other committee, for example; she was appointed a director of Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) board for three years. She was further appointed the Chairperson of the Appointments, Finance and Audit Committee (AFNAC).

Tiwonge Chipeta is an accomplished Tax Auditor with an advanced domestic taxes administration certificate with exceptional performance from Institute for Tax Administration (ITA). She also holds a Master of Science in Management Studies (Distinction) with a specialisation in Public Sector Finance Management from Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) Business School and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education Science from University of Malawi, Chancellor College. She has work experience in private, public and government sectors.
She has worked in the Large Taxpayers Office at Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) for 7+ years as a Team leader in the Audit section. She joined MRA as an Excise Tax auditor specialist after working for Carlsberg Malawi Brewery Limited as a certified brew master. Her work experience in MRA includes auditing Taxpayers in Manufacturing, Excise as well as Wholesale and Retail business sectors. Her passion and dedication is in giving back to the community by helping the government maximise revenue collection in a fair and transparent manner.
She is a former Science Teacher at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. While teaching, she founded a Science club at Dedza Islamic girls’ secondary school with the aim of promoting gender equity in Science Education. These aside, she has also worked with REACH Trust as a research assistant in a couple of social research activities. She is also a Board member for Friends of Hope International (FOHI), a non-profit organisation established with the aim of improving the security and potential of Malawian women and boys aged 9-23years through educational and personal development training.
Vanessa Khoza is a trained Financial Economist and currently works as a Risk Officer at Old Mutual Malawi and previously NICO Asset Managers. In the financial industry, she has gained experience in Risk Management, Economic Research, and Corporate Finance and has played several oversight roles including Project Management.
In terms of her qualifications, Vanessa Khoza has a Master of Arts in Economics (distinction) degree from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College, specialising in Financial Economics and Monetary theory. She is also a certified Business Risk Manager by the University of Capetown and an Associate Professional Risk Manager by the Professional Risk Managers International Association (PRMIA).
She is currently enrolled in a Digital Literacy Program by the University of Stellenbosch. Vanessa is also a holder of a Bachelor of Social Science degree from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College, majoring in Economics and Psychology as a minor.
Her interests are mainly on Financial Risk Management, Financial Modelling, Econometrics and Data Analytics. She is a Christian and enjoys travelling and reading books in her spare time. Additionally, Vanessa also likes helping and mentoring people especially young girls and students.
June Kambalametore is currently the Corruption Prevention Specialist of Basel Institute of Governance in Malawi. June has many years of experience in policy, advocacy and programme management, with a focus on governance and open contracting. She has worked as a Country Engagement Developer of Hivos Southern Africa and she has also previously held leadership positions such as Executive Director of the Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN), including working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Malawi. Her work with communities at the grassroots level has led her to development and governance roles supporting civil society across Southern Africa.
In addition to her work with Malawian and international organisations, she has served on the Board of Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) for nine years and is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society and Bwaila Rotary Club.
June holds a Master of Commerce Degree in Economics, an Honors degree in Economics, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree all from the University of Kwazulu Natal, South Africa.
Esme Nhlane is a professional Economist with a Master of Arts in Economic Policy Management and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics obtained from the University of Zambia and University of Malawi (Bunda College) respectively. She is currently serving as a Chief Economist in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.
The following are her key professional experience highlights:
- She has sixteen (16) years of practical experience in building results based M&E, Community Based M&E (CBME) systems with technical expertise in designing monitoring tools, data collection, analysis and report writing.
- She was on secondment at the National Planning Commission from March 2019 to December 2020 where she spearheaded the setting-up of the M&E Directorate. While at NPC she coordinated the 2019 Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS) III Mid-Term Review Report and supported the formulation of the Malawi Vision 2063.
- For over seven (7) years as a Chief Economist working in the M&E Division within the Ministry of Economic Planning & Development, she coordinated and facilitated the development of the M&E Framework of the MGDS III and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She has also taken a leading role in building Ministries, Departments & Agencies (MDAs) staff capacity in Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation including the development of M&E framework
- She has served as a coordinator in developing the SDGs Malawi Baseline Report (2017) and 2018 Malawi SDG Annual Progress Report.
- She is currently leading the M&E Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs in building a Management Information System (MIS) and the Government Wide M&E System for the Government of Malawi in partnership with the UN family in Malawi.
Samantha Chanza is a lecturer and acting head of department at the Millennium University. She teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She also works as part time lecturer at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) (formerly: the Polytechnic). Previously she was working for First Capital Bank (FCB) Limited as a Business Development Executive and she was managing the bank’s private suite. Before FCB she worked for Indebank Limited and Opportunity Bank of Malawi in that order as Credit Officer and Agriculture Lending Officer respectively. Among other things, she analysed, assessed and recommended for approval credit applications ensuring that credit risk was sufficiently contained within the banks’ acceptable risk appetite.
She holds both Honours and Master’s Degrees in Agricultural Economics obtained in 2014 and 2016 respectively from Stellenbosch University and a Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness Management obtained in 2007 from the University of Malawi.
Her objective in life is to work effectively and efficiently, ensuring the achievement of national and organizational goals. She has great interpersonal and leadership skills. She is a self-starter, hardworking and can work within team units as well as independently. She once was the vice president of the Malawi Students Union for Stellenbosch University (2014 – 2015). And previously she was also the secretary of the Luanar (Bunda) Students Union (2006-2007).
Commissioner Scader Louis is the Chairperson of MHRC. Prior to being the Chairperson of MHRC, Commissioner Louis was a Commissioner responsible for Disability and Elderly Rights and Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committees.
Commissioner Louis is a disability rights activist and her track record demonstrates that she is strongly grounded in the promotion and protection of human rights of vulnerable groups in society. She is a co-founder of Spinal Injuries Association of Malawi (SIAM), an organization which exist to address needs of persons with spinal cord injuries from a rights based approach. Much of her advocacy work in the disability movement has been that of advocating for realization of human rights of persons with spinal cord injury and women and girls with disabilities. As a seasoned peer supporter, her role has over the years been providing psychological support (or counseling), disability rights awareness, transfer skills support and working with partners such as MAP, Motivation Africa to provide appropriate assistive devices to persons with spinal cord injuries. In 2013, because of her work in this area, Commissioner Louis participated in mainstreaming disability in Africa programme funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Commissioner Louis has also contributed greatly to the advocacy work for women and girls with disabilities, particularly on access to inclusive health care systems. She is also a recipient of a seed grant from Mobility International, USA (MIUSA) a USA based organization that advances disability rights and leadership for women and girls with disabilities.
Commissioner Louis is an Accountant by profession and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA). She is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM). Commissioner Louis is a Board Member of Land Base Limited and Joy Abilities Empowerment organization. She is currently working with World Vision Malawi as Risk and Compliance Manager.
Mrs Cecilia Wanda
Mrs Cecilia Wanda, Msc in agricultural Economics, has 16 years work experience as monitoring, evaluation and learning specialist.
